Should I build my own website or hire someone?

Short answer

If you're just starting and money is tight, build it yourself. Wix, Squarespace and similar builders are good tools. Hire someone when the site needs more time than you have: a real Spanish version, a page for every service and town, structured data, and keeping it all current.

Why it matters

Customers don’t care who built your website. What it shows them decides whether they choose you.

When building it yourself is enough

Build it yourself if:

  • You’re just starting, and money is tight.
  • You offer a few services in one area.
  • You only need one language.

Wix, Squarespace and similar builders are good tools for this. Start with your Google Business Profile, then a simple site: your services, your area, real photos and your phone number.

Google says much the same about showing up in search: “If you run a small local business, you can probably do much of the work yourself.” (Google Search Central)

Where it stops being enough

As you grow, the website needs more work:

  • A real Spanish version. Every page written in Spanish, at its own address, not a translate button. More on Spanish →
  • A page for every service and town you want to show up for.
  • Structured data. Code that tells Google your business name, services and service area.
  • Keeping it current. New jobs, photos and prices, in both languages. An old page can cost you the call.
  • Your time. Every hour on the website is an hour off the job.

Google’s guide puts it plainly: “Short on time or not feeling adventurous? You might consider hiring a professional.” (Google Search Central)

If you hire us

  • A website on its own is $1,000 for five pages in English and Spanish. Copywriting and the logo are included. Hosting is $300 a year, or take the files. See websites →
  • Or a year of SEO & AEO, with new or updated pages every month: $200 a month for 12 months, or $2,200 upfront. A $3,700 value. Your $1,000 bilingual website and first-year hosting are included. See the offer →

Questions

Will a DIY website hurt me on Google?

Not because you built it. Google says "most sites pass the technical requirements without even realizing it." What counts after that is what your pages say: your services, your area and your real work.

I already built my own website. Do I have to start over?

No. If it's on Wix, we rebuild it for you in custom HTML, in English and Spanish, included with a year of SEO & AEO. Website builders tie you to their plan, and more people working on your site can mean a higher plan. Custom HTML doesn't: any web developer can change it, and you can host it anywhere, which can save you money in the long run. If your site is built another way, ask us.

If I'll hire someone later, should I build it myself first?

You can, and you'll know what to look for when you hire. But if you already know you'll hire someone for search, Google's advice is to do it early: "a great time to hire is when you're considering a site redesign (the earlier, the better), or planning to launch a new site."

Start with search. Build from there.
